A PAIR OF 12-BORE 'GOLD NAME' BOXLOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 7975 / 6,
for 1899, 28in. replacement nitro barrels (in 1936 and 1968 respectively, No.1 likely by another, No.2 barrel number 19336), the ribs engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. LONDON.' and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 3/4 choke (No.1) and imp. cyl. and 3/4 choke (No.2), treble-grip actions, Westley Richards patent toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT EJECTOR', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, plain actions retaining renewed black finish, with the makers name in gold to the sides, 14 7/8in. figured stocks including 1 1/2in. wooden extensions, fore-ends with Deeley & Edge patent release catches gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and with horn finials, weight 6lb. 10oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 11oz. (No.2), in a brass-cornered leather case
Provenance: a copy of the entry from the makers records (accompanies the Lot) confirm the guns were ordered on 28th July 1899 by Greenwood & Batley Ltd.
A later note in the records interestingly reads "Atkinson & Sons Lancaster asked for quotation new brls etc Nov 21/35. Said our price absurd. Watch whether they get brls fitted in the trade with our name on"
