serial number on under rib only, circa 1875, 27 3/4in. black powder only damascus barrels with broad file-cut rib, open sights and folding leaf sight with white metal sight lines and marked for 100 and 200 yards, bead fore-sight, traces of 'ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. LONDON' visible on tubes, action incorporating John Thomas patent 'rectangular wedge bolt' snap-action, patent no. 3091 of 15th November 1871, carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks, border and acanthus scroll engraving, rubbed at bar, 14 3/8in. pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, steel pistolgrip-cap, sling eyes and ribbed steel buttplate, snap fore-end, weight 7lb. 8oz., in a canvas case
