Product Details

A LARGE 12-BORE FLINTLOCK SHIPS BLUNDERBUSS or MUSKETOON MARKED TO THE S.S. WILTON, WORKINGTON, no visible serial number,
circa 1780, with heavy iron 24 1/2in. barrel, strongly flared muzzle, private proofs, later black painted finish, the front face of muzzle brushed bright (now tarnished) and inscribed 'S.S. WILTON, WORKINGTON', solid rounded top-tang, large musket-style lock signed 'WARRANTED' at the tail and with a Georgian crown below the pan, swan-necked cock, probable replacement full-stock with brass furniture, iron horseshoe swivel-mount to fore-end and iron ramrod

Provenance: Sadly, no record of the Sail Ship Wilton seems to have survived, but Workington was a burgeoning merchant port in the 18th and 19th centuries with a vast amount of traders and merchant vessels using it as a base of business
