A CASED .295 (.300 ROOK) SINGLE-BARRELLED SIDE-LEVER ROOK & RABBIT RIFLE, serial no. 18389,
circa 1900, with blued octagonal 26in. barrel, the right side top-flat signed 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON', the opposite flat 'WINNERS OF ALL THE FIELD RIFLE TRIALS' and '.295 SEMI SMOOTH BORE', the top-flat with machined matting for the first 6 1/2in. and the last 5in., dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with two further folding leaves, the underside of barrel with further number '90164', plain receiver (traces of colour), automatic ejection, central exposed hammer, thumb-operated side-lever to the right, chequered walnut pistol-grip butt-stock (pinned at head), iron heel-plate and snap-on chequered walnut splinter fore-end (losses to rear corners), in a period canvas case lined and compartmented in red baize and with Holland & Holland parchment trade-label inside lid (case worn with losses)
