Provenance: This gun is accompanied with a receipt for Indian Import Duty and Permit to Travel, both dated 1921.
The permit to travel states that the owner of the shotgun, Lt. A.E. Hopkins, Royal Field Artillery, was "... exempt from the directions and prohibitions... of the Indian Arms Act 1878..." due to being a recipient of the Military Cross. The Military Cross is granted in recognition of "an act or acts of exemplary gallantry during active operations against the enemy on land to all members, of any rank in Our Armed Forces".
