circa 1838-39, with octagonal 5 1/2in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'PATENT ARMS M'G CO PATERSON N-J COLT'S PT', small applied white-metal crescent bladed fore-sight, rear-sight notch to the hammer-nose, plain cylinder with two sets of deeply engraved bands bordering a roll-engraved scene of hunters on horseback (faint), circular locking notches, separate iron floor-plate and standing breech attached to the iron frame, separate iron back-strap (one screw missing from back of frame), figured walnut one-piece smooth grip (some shrinkage), sprung folding trigger and matching number cross-wedge, action slightly at fault
