AN EXCEPTIONAL 12-BORE IMPERIAL GRADE G EJECTOR, serial no. 68934,
28 3/4in. Greener trade mark nitro barrels, raised tapered matt rib with banner inscribed 'W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 40. PALL MALL. LONDON. WORKS ST. MARY'S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM', and gold-inlaid '2', the breech ends profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork intertwined with sprigs of oak, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. full choke in both, scroll-back action with side shoulders, double shell carved fences, the toplever gold inlaid with a crown and sceptre, manual side-safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail and engraved with a snipe, chequered triggers, the action lockplates and furniture finely engraved with acanthus scrolls interspersed with ears of wheat, oak leaves, acorns and bulrushes, surrounding finely engraved vignettes of hound and fowl, the underside with woodcock, partridge and grouse, the triggerguard with a hound retrieving rabbit, the triggerguard tang engraved 'GRADE BEST', retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/4in. figured semi-pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, horn insert drop points, fleur de lys chequering, sling swivels and including 3/4in. rubber recoil pad, the fore-end engraved and chequered en suite, with Deeley & Edge patent release catch and ornate horn finial, weight 7lb. 6oz., in a relined leather case with Greener 'crossed guns' trade label
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was started on the 14th May 1931 and completed on the 29th October of the same year. It was completed for a Mr Rossi, with 28 3/4in. barrels and with a cheekpiece on the stock. The engraver was Saunders.
