A FINE AND RARE CASED HUNTING GARNITURE OF A DOUBLE 12-BORE PERCUSSION & A 14-BORE PINFIRE SPORTING GUN, serial no. 3804 / 4221,
possibly made for the Paris Exhibition of 1851, the percussion gun with browned fine damascus 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'FI. PAR. LEFAUCHEUX AER ORE DES S A R MGR LE DUC DE NEMOURS A PARIS', engraved rib-end at breech, border and scroll engraved top-tang with central monogram 'A.R' picked out and bordered in gold, border, scroll and hunting scene engraved hump-backed bar-action locks with dipped tails, scroll engraved hammers, figured walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, engraved and blued heel-plate, trigger guard tang and bow and ramrod throat, under-barrel ebony ramrod, the pinfire with 29 1/2in. barrels (browning faded), the top-rib signed 'F.P. LEFAUCHEUX A PARIS', border and scroll engraved action with forward-facing under-lever, engraved long top-tang with a similar monogram to before, border and scroll engraved isolated back-action locks signed 'F.P LEFAUCHEUX A PARIS', en-suite hammers, figured walnut butt-stock, engraved iron captive fore-end, both shotguns remaining in fine condition with much original finish throughout and in their maker's mahogany case with brass stringing, lined and compartmented in purple velvet in the continental manner (now faded to brown) and including a full suite of period accessories including a magnificent ivory-hilted hunting sword in a blued and etched iron scabbard (ivory exemption certificate XVI96ERX) provision for another (absent), together with flasks, loading tools and sundry accessories, the case lid engraved with an armourial on an inlet brass escutcheon
