circa 1860, the number probably an arsenal inventory number, with 46 1/2in. tapering iron barrel with flaring muzzle, shallow moulded bands at breech and muzzle, shallow open sights,side mounted pan (cover absent), partially concealed serpentine with hatchet trigger, wood full-stock of typical form except for the full abalone covering (some small losses, inked on the underside with the number 1037) and wire barrel-bands
