A .320 (RIMFIRE) J. STEVENS 'TIP-UP' SINGLE-SHOT TARGET RIFLE, serial no. 38067,
circa 1885, with octagonal 26 3/8in. barrel, the top-flat near breech signed 'J. STEVENS A & T CO.' over 'CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. USA PAT SEPT 6 1864' (partially obscured by the buckhorn rear-sight), tunnel fore-sight, nickel-plated open receiver with central hammer, the top-tang later fitted with a micro adjustable vernier tang-sight, walnut roach-belly butt-stock (cracked and repaired on left side of wrist), crescent heel-plate, guarded trigger with raised lower tang, possible replacement walnut beaver-tail fore-end with later fitted turned mushroom palm-rest, fair amount of finish throughout
