A SCARCE .690 FLINTLOCK E. WHITNEY 1822 SECOND CONTRACT SPRINGFIELD MUSKET, no visible serial number,
dated for 1833, with round 42in. barrel, bayonet lug to top of barrel at muzzle, fore-sight blade to rear band of the twin-banded nose-cap, 'M.S.' inspector's marks at breech (unknown, some light bruising to metal), top-tang dated '1833', military style lock signed 'E. WHITNEY' below a crossed arrow and branch and with 'U.S.' above, matching 1833 date to tail, ring-necked cock, frizzen refaced, walnut full-stock with iron furniture including two further barrel-bands and iron under-barrel ramrod, provision for sling swivels (swivels absent)
