built on the 1862 patent with use number '28', with 29 3/4in. browned barrels marked 'DAMASCUS' to the underside and signed on the top-rib 'JOSEPH NEEDHAM PATENT 26 PICCADILLY LONDON', engraved starbursts around the pin apertures, border and scroll engraved action, border scroll and gamescene engraved bar-action locks, short side-lever to the right side opening the gun and placing the hammers on half-cock, chequered walnut butt-stock (cracked and repaired at wrist), iron furniture, chequered walnut splinter fore-end, in a period leather covered two-tier oak casing lined and compartmented in green baize, lift out tray for the stock and action, the lower tray for the barrels and ammunition
