AN EXTREMELY RARE 32IN. BARRELLED 20-BORE TOPLEVER BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUN, serial no. 10024,
for 1877, 32in. nitro reproved fine damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.' 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, right wall at 19, carved percussion fences, the toplever engraved 'PURDEY', rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets to the locks and knuckle, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, 14 3/8in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with engraved steel pistolgrip-cap and including 5/8in. ebonite extension, weight 5lb. 13oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case, retaining original hand-written charges label, the lid outer marked 'John Harvey. The Black Watch'
