A RARE .460 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING MONT STORM PATENT RIFLE SIGNED CHARLES PHELPS, LONDON, serial no. 748,
circa 1863, with 33in. barrel (some blinded pitting), broad dove-tailed blade fore-sight, service-style elevating ladder rear-sight, borderline engraved flip up chamber for combustible cartridge, the top marked 'STORM'S PATENT' (rubbed), 'No. 748' engraved to the top-tang (actually a patent use number), borderline engraved bar-action lock with traces of colour and scattered pitting signed 'CHAS. PHELPS, 3 ROOD LANE, LONDON', walnut regulation style full-stock (cracked and repaired below top-tang, pinned and large inlet repair to underside forwards of lock), iron furniture including eyelets for sling and under-barrel clearing rod
