A GOOD 15-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN SIGNED HEATHCOTE, no visible serial number,
circa 1810, with expertly rebrowned octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 33in. barrel, carved girdle at the intersection, white metal bead fore-sight, knock-off breech with platinum vent and twin gold bands, further engraved band of standing needles, trophy engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved step-tailed lock (traces of colour) and signed 'HEATHCOTE' below the rainproof pan, roller frizzen, swan-necked cock, walnut half-stock with finely chequered wrist, iron furniture except white metal fore-end tip and mahogany ramrod, traces of period finish to furniture pieces


Provenance: This sporting gun is probably the work of James Heathcote who operated from Whittall Street, Birmingham between 1807-1811
