A 14mm PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE SIGNED F. NOWAK, PRAG, no visible serial number,
circa 1850, with browned octagonal laminated 28in. barrel swamping at the muzzle, the top-flat signed in gilt 'NOWAK AM PRAG', the 'A' and part of the 'G' of Prag removed by a later filled dove-tail, shallow white-metal dove-tailed fore-sight, elevating rear-sight with engraved and shaped foot, engraved and gold bands at breech, engraved and moulded fenced snail with platinum vent, engraved breech-block, engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed within a banner 'NOWAK, a mirror-image side-plate opposite signed 'IN PRAG', finely chequered walnut half-stock of Schuetzen style, the chequering at wrist with scalloped border, the top of wrist with previous inlet for a peep-sight now filled, moulded raised cheek-piece with relief-carved rosette behind, heavy border and scroll engraved iron heel-plate, double set trigger (front blade lacking), complex finger-groove trigger guard and no provision for ramrod
