A 12-BORE SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 9712,
No. 2 of a pair, with 28in. replacement nitro barrels (by another in 1972), the rib engraved 'NEW BARRELS MADE FOR WILLIAM POWELL GUN NO. 9712' and with a '2' surrounded by scrollwork at the breech-end, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 3/4 choke, treble-grip action, the fences carved with foliate scrollwork on a matt background, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued, 14 1/8in. figured stock, weight 6lb. 12oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case.
The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was made in 1894 for an H. M. Beddington Esq.
