A GERMAN 20-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN,
third quarter of the 18th century, with 28in. barrels signed 'IN BAMBERG FERDINAND ECKARD' in silver at the breeches and struck with maker's marks, silver fore-sight, grooved tang, rounded locks respectively signed 'FERDINAND ECKARD' and 'IN BAMBERG', walnut half-stock carved in low relief with scrollwork behind the barrel-tang and with a woodland scene involving a hound chasing down a boar on the right side and a stag behind the raised cheek-piece on the left side, the cheek-piece heightened with applied brass scrollwork and inlaid with a bone and dark wood star, brass mounts including butt-plate with faceted tang (trigger-guard repaired), faceted brass ramrod-pipes, iron sling mounts, and later brass-mounted ramrod.
