AN AMERICAN 60-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE,
mid-19th century, with 32 1/4in. octagonal sighted barrel inlaid with two white metal lines at the breech, border and scroll engraved breech inlaid with two further white metal lines, border and scroll engraved long tang and back-action lock, the latter decorated with a stag, figured maple half-stock with raised cheek-piece inset with an engraved white metal eagle, set trigger, border and scroll engraved white metal mounts including spurred pistolgrip trigger-guard, scroll engraved white metal patch-box cover, shield-shaped white metal escutcheon, white metal ramrod-pipes, and iron ramrod (barrel with some surface pitting, other iron parts discoloured, one barrel-bolt replaced), barrelsmith's mark 'RC'.
