A VICTORIAN HUNTING KNIFE OF MASSIVE FORM,
by Paget of 195 Piccadilly, London, circa 1850, with steel end-capped stag horn hilt, large flat steel cross guard (surface corrosion and patina), the substantial 13 3/4in. spear point blade double edged for the last 3in. (large areas of surface rust, blade polish on the remainder) makers details and V R with a crown on the left hand side near the cross guard, together with its original scabbard of blackend leather (rubbed), attached reinforced tip and frog with buckle securing strap and belt loop to the reverse.
Other Notes: Paget traded at this address from 1839-1860, where upon they moved next door to 196 Piccadilly, ceasing trading in 1888. Amongst their esteemed customers was the famous victorian hunter Samuel Baker, who co-designed a number of blades of similar form, primarily for use by the Indian Shikars
