A SUBSTANTIAL 8-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT BENCH-REST RIFLE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
circa 1840, Continental and assembled from earlier parts, with extremely heavy 37in. slightly swamped octagonal rifled barrel (some external pitting), later adjustable rear-sight (probably dating from time of assembly), earlier curved and radiused converted lock (pitted, mechanism at fault), replacement full stock fitted with an adjustable aperture rear-sight at the wrist, 'hogs-bristle' set trigger, brass mounts, no provision for ramrod and large iron plate with mounting lug on the underside of the fore-end.
