A PATTERN 1803 INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD,
with 28 3/4in. curved fullered single-edged spear-point blade (some pitting and discolouration), the blade darkened for two thirds of its length (originally blued) with incised decoration (originally gilt) on each side involving the Royal arms, 'GR' cypher, 'WARRANTED' on a ribbon and the figure of an officer all surrounded by foliage, brass hilt retaining traces of gilding comprising slotted guard, knuckle-guard with pierced 'GR' cypher and with sword-knot ring, and lion's head pommel, wire-bound ivory grip, in original brass-mounted black leather scabbard, the locket engraved 'CAPT. N.F. LOCKE / R.M.' on the left side and 'GOLDNEYS / LATE NEILD / ST. JAMES'S STRT. / SWORD CUTLERS / TO HRH THE / PRINCE REGENT' (chape replaced).
