A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILT OFFICER'S BACKSWORD,
circa 1770-80, with 34 3/4in. fullered single-edged blade double-edged for approximately half its length (tip reprofiled), iron hilt with scrolled downturned rear quillon and basket pierced with ovals, waisted slots, hearts and elongated slots with waved edges, incised pommel, and wire-bound shagreen-covered grip with brass collars (discoloured throughout).
