W.W. GREENER
A BRASS-CORNERED GUNCASE, CONTAINING THE SPORTMANTEAU PATENT 'STIFF LIMP' CANVAS AND HARD LEATHER GUNSLIP,
the case fitted for 28in. barrels, red baize interior with gold-detailed red leather Greener trade label, with provision for the Sportmanteau patent 'Stiff Limp' cover marked 'REGd. No. 18476 STIFFLIMP COVER', both the guncase lid and 'Stiff Limp' initialled 'R.M.N.'

Other Notes: Fairly soon after the new century ushered in the Edwardian era, the quality leather case maker, Sportmanteau, introduced a new addition to their guncase range with the engaging title of the Stiff Limp. The idea was sound and devilishly simple; transport one's gun to a shoot in a case with provision for a well made canvas and hard leather gunslip (the stiff/limp part of the affair). Even though a fine offering, the Stiff Limp proved to be a bit of a flop and examples now are very rare
