A BOHEMIAN 30-BORE FLINTLOCK PISTOL,
second quarter of the 18th century, with 8in. slightly swamped two-stage barrel with brass fore-sight, turned girdle and octagonal breech-section, engraved tang retaining traces of blued finish, flat bevelled lock signed 'T. POLTZ' and engraved with two martial trophies, one on the tail, the other beneath the pan, moulded figured walnut full stock carved in low relief with foliage behind the barrel tang (old repaired crack to the right side of the fore-end), flattened butt, cast and chased brass mounts including spurred pommel, trigger-guard and side-plate each decorated with scenes of horsemen engaged in combat surrounded by scrollwork, brass trophy of arms escutcheon, dark horn fore-end cap, and original horn-tipped ramrod with worm.

Other Notes: Thaddeus Poltz is recorded in Carlsbad between circa 1760 and 1780.
