first half of the 18th century, with 13 1/2in. swamped barrel with three-quarter length sighting flat with rectangular panel heightened with silver and engraved with a 'signature', the breech-section with indistinct silver-lined maker's mark, single silver line and chiselled in low relief with scrollwork and flower-heads surrounding a domed applied silver escutcheon, border and scroll engraved silver-covered grooved tang with further 'signature', rounded lock engraved with scrollwork (some wear) and chiselled in low relief with a spray of foliage on the tail, moulded walnut full stock (forward half of fore-end replaced, some loss to edges of fore-end) carved in low relief around the barrel-tang and rear ramrod-pipe with scrollwork, silver mounts including spurred pommel finely chased with scrollwork and pierced side-plate, iron trigger-guard with pierced foliate finial and two silver-inlaid panels decorated with scrollwork and foliage, silver foliate escutcheon surmounted with a crown, and later horn-tipped ramrod (some discolouration to iron parts).
