A FINE TURKISH 20-BORE MIQUELET-LOCK SPORTING CARBINE,
18th century, with 24 3/4in. swamped etched twist sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves, border engraved lock, the fence covered with a silver panel engraved with scrollwork, Circassian walnut three-quarter stock (repaired opposite the lock and along edge of fore-end) of characteristic form with swelling faceted butt and profusely decorated with inlaid brass pellets and roundels of geometric design, some roundels inlaid with stained horn, some set within shaped bone panels, others set within two green-stained horn bands on the butt, the butt also decorated with a band of brass domed pins, the barrel retained by three silver barrel-bands each with a pierced spray of foliage (incomplete on the rear band), shaped bone escutcheons for two barrel-bolts (bolts missing), iron button trigger, and the iron tip of an associated ramrod.
