A CENTRAL ITALIAN 25-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL,
second half of the 18th century, with 12 1/2in. slightly swamped two-stage barrel, the octagonal breech-section with six inset brass panels decorated with foliage against a punched ground surrounding a central oval with an applied silver female portrait bust, border engraved iron tang, flat bevelled lock signed 'RETTORI' and with further inset brass panels decorated en suite with the breech-section, figured maple full stock (cracked through and repaired on the fore-end and around the lock, small filled repairs around the pommel), chased brass mounts with applied silver female portrait busts including spurred pommel, shaped brass escutcheon, and brass-tipped ramrod (some corrosion marks to iron parts).
