* A 14-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN SIGNED HOLMES, LIVERPOOL,
circa 1830, with 28 1/8in. stub twist sighted barrels, border and scroll engraved patent breeches inlaid with two gold lines on the rib between, border and scroll engraved long tang and back-action locks, the latter each signed 'HOLMES - LIVERPOOL', well figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip (some bruising, old crack running vertically along the grain on the left side of the butt), border and scroll engraved iron mounts, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and brass-mounted ramrod (some discolouration throughout), Birmingham proof marks, in associated lined and fitted case (interior worn, partitions loose) with some accessories including steel-mounted leather shot-flask, brass-mounted Dixon powder-flask (dented) retaining much original lacquered finish and wad-punch, the lid with shaped brass escutcheon incorporating the flush-fitting carrying handle (later applied corners, one locking catch incomplete).
