the lock dated '1856', with shortened 28in. barrel sighted to 900 yards, dated border engraved lock with 'VR' cypher and marked 'TOWER', walnut three-quarter stock marked with War Dept. obsolete / sold out of service mark and 'CC / 34 / 9 Co.' on the right side of the butt, brass mounts, two spring-held barrel-bands, later iron ramrod (iron parts discoloured), London proof marks.
