A MASSIVE DUTCH 18.84X38Rmm (TABATIERE) FALLING-BLOCK BENCH-REST TARGET RIFLE, serial no. 1951,
late 19th century for 'Schutzenfest' competitions, 37 1/4in. extremely heavy octagonal barrel signed 'ANT. VALKENBERGH-SITTART' and rifled with eight grooves, bead fore-sight with protectors, adjustable rear blade sight, action enclosed within the stock, scrolled pistolgrip trigger-guard with sprung locking catch acting as the mechanism lever, the rear of the action forming a substantial sloping tang fitted with a large folding aperture sight, 17in. full stock with raised cheek-piece on each side of the butt for shooting from the right or left shoulder, iron mounts including hook butt-plate, large iron sling mounts and forend rail.
