A 13-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN SIGNED WILKINS, ETON,
late 18th century, with 40 1/2in. slightly swamped two-stage barrel (pitted, relined touch-hole) with silver spider fore-sight, border and foliate engraved tang, lightly engraved flat bevelled lock signed 'WILKINS / ETON' and with stepped tail and large roller, walnut full stock (slender chip and some cracking to left side of fore-end at the muzzle) with chequered grip, engraved brass mounts including trigger-guard with shell finial (engraving worn), bone side-nail escutcheons, and brass-mounted ramrod with worm, Tower private proof marks, barrelsmiths mark 'RW'.
Other Notes: Robert Wilkins is recorded in Eton between 1783 and 1798.
