W. GAMBLE, WISBEACH
A 12-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK WILDFOWLING GUN,
circa 1821, with 59 1/2in. slightly swamped twist two-stage barrel signed 'WISBEACH' (sic) on the octagonal breech-section, silver spider fore-sight, engraved grooved tang, flat bevelled lock signed 'W. GAMBLE' and decorated with foliate and border engraving, walnut full stock (minor cracks, some repaired, minor inset repairs to fore-end), brass mounts including trigger-guard with acorn finial and engraved solid side-plate, and later ramrod, Tower private proof marks.
Other Notes: William Gamble and William Gamble Jr. are both recorded in Wisbech between 1821 and 1824.
