30in. nitro barrels, rib gold-inlaid '3' and engraved 'BOSS & CO. 73. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', left wall thickness at 19-, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, sidelever action, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguard, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish, 15in. stock including 1/2in. wooden extension, weight 6lb. 11oz. The makers have kindly confirmed that this shotgun was built as no.1 of a pair and completed in July 1906, the pair were built to match an earlier pair of guns, nos. 4381/2 to form a quad which would account for the No.3 inlaid on the barrels.
