Product Details

THOMAS STENSBY AND CO. LTD.
THE NAME AND GOODWILL OF THE COMPANY,
numerous ledgers and gunmakers' ephemera, to include; formal statements of accounts submitted to Companies House, cashbooks, stock-holding ledgers, repair ledgers, a book detailing firearms left in storage whilst their owners were away at the war, numerous loose and framed photographs both period and modern, several printing blocks, company stationery, a framed Certificate of Incorporation dated 27th September 1955 and issued by the Registrar of Companies, numerous copies of company correspondance together with various other items.

Provenance: Thomas Stensby took the reins of the company in 1883 when it had already been trading for at least seventy years under his family name. At this time the firm traded from Hanging Ditch in Manchester before moving to Withy Grove circa 1905 where they were to stay, albeit at two different addresses until 1955 when incorporation took place. The firm then moved to 33 Shudehill in 1980 before their final premises at no.1 Shudehill. This was in the heart of the city and the area that was to be so devastated by the bomb planted by Irish Republican terrorists. Following this, much of the surrounding area was swept away in a re-development programme and 1 Shudehill was one of the few Georgian/Victorian buildings left in the vicinity.

The company has now sadly ceased trading, and so it is that we are able to offer the name at auction.
