AN IVORY-HILTED HUNTING KNIFE, MODEL 'UNITED STATES VOLUNTEERS'
early 20th century, with 10in spear-point blade, the forte stamped 'IXL', the blade etched with 'GEO. WOSTENHOLM & SONS SOLE MANUFACTURER OF THE REAL IXL CUTLERY' to the centre and 'THE UNITED STATES THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE PROTECTED BY HER NOBLE AND BRAVE VOLUNTEERS' and 'AMERICANS ASK FOR NOTHING BUT WHAT IS RIGHT AND SUBMIT TO NOTHING THAT IS WRONG' to each side, the top edge stamped with four trademarks and 'THE HUNTERS COMPANION', brass cross-guard,and straight hilt with ivory scales and nickel escutcheon (tarnish marks to blade, no scabbard).
