26in. sleeved nitro barrels, rib faintly engraved 'ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, action incorporating aspects of J.V. Needham 1874 patent ejector system, patent No. 1205, use number 405, hold-open toplever with 'Jumping Jack' return stud, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, protuberated cover plate, fine acanthus scroll engraving. brushed bright and blued finish overall, repair to rear trigger, 14 1/2in. figured stock including buttplate, ornate bordered chequering refreshed, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release, the iron with cocking lever placement extension, weight 6lb. 8oz.
The makers have kindly conformed that the gun was completed in 1882 as an early example of the Self-acting ejector model. They have confirmed that just three grades were available at this time - very best at 45 guineas, best at 40 guineas and medium grade at 35 guineas. This particular example is likely to be the 40 guinea version.
