circa 1840, with 30in sighted re-browned barrels, broad matted top-rib signed 'JAMES SIMKIN & SON, BOLTON, seven-leaf folding uncut ladder sight with platinum lines sighted to 900 yds, the false-breech, tang and lockplates profusely engraved with floral motifs and borders, scroll engraved dolphin hammers, walnut chequered half-stock with engraved steel furniture (trigger guard repaired), pineapple finial, circular steel patch-box engraved with a lion in a mountain setting, shield-shaped white metal escutcheon with initials 'TCL' and 'RIVINGTON, LANCASHIRE', eyelets for sling and replacement ramrod (locks brushed bright, refinished throughout)
