AN 1827 PATTERN NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD,
late 1930's, with solid brass half-basket hilt, folding inner guard, sharkskin grip with wire binding, lion mask and mane pommel and backstrap (traces of gilding), Georgian crown and fouled anchor to front, correct bullion sword knot (frayed), the single fullered blade with etched panels and makers details to the forte, inlayed proof mark to the reverse (patches of mild tarnish), in its original black leather scabbard with gilded brass mounts (lightly worn) and one service hanger.
Provenance: We are kindly informed by the vendor that this sword was issued to her uncle who served as a Royal Naval officer in the last war. He was on board the first warship to enter Hong Kong harbour following the surrender of the Japanese.
