A RARE, EARLY .45-75 (WIN) LEVER-ACTION SHORT RIFLE, MODEL '1876', serial no. 6258
for 1878, with 26in octagonal barrel stamped on the top flat ' WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. C.T.' and 'KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29 1866. OCTOBER 1860', special series '42' rearsight and 'Beach' style folding globe front-sight (replacement), sliding dust-cover with chequered oval thumb-piece, screw down cover guide, top tang with early style model denomination, grub-screw for peep-sight, full-length magazine, brass lifter with no calibre denomination, straight-hand stock, crescent steel heel-plate with sliding trapdoor, still retaining an original 'Winchester' five-piece cleaning rod, provenance letter from the Winchester archives. (metalwork discoloured, small patches of cleaned corrosion, areas of original finish, some bruising to woodwork).
