28in. nitro reproved barrels, the ribs engraved 'Wm. POWELL & SON, CARRS LANE, BIRMINGHAM. SIR J. WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' and gold inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends (No.1 wall thicknesses below recommended minimum), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke (both), treble-grip actions, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish, 13 3/4in. figured replacement stocks including buttplates (No.1 with very minor crack and insert at hand), replacement fore-end woods, weight 6lb. (No.1) 6lb. 1oz. (No.2), in their makers brass-cornered oak and leather double guncase with some accessories

Provenance: This pair of shotguns were built for the Right Honourable The Lord Stafford and completed in 1894. He used them to great effect and they took part in the record breaking days at Abbeystead on 12th, 13th & 14th August 1915 when the line shot 2,985 1/2 brace of grouse. The Marquis accounted for a total of 337 1/2 brace to his own guns.
