mid Victorian, the round 35in re-browned Whitworth rifled barrel with deeply recessed muzzle crown, micro-adjustable front-sight, folding ladder rear-sight, lock-plate with sliding safety catch forward of the hammer, lock-plate engraved 'WHITWORTH RIFLE CO MANCHESTER' and a crown surmounted by a letter 'W', the chequered walnut full-stock with three steel barrel-bands,top tang with folding adjustable diopter sight, steel trigger guard marked 'BEST', serial no. on side of guard behind trigger, steel butt-plate, sling swivels and original steel threaded ram-rod (some mild pitting to lock-plate and iron parts, light bruising to woodwork, old inlet repair to comb)
