AN EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY 16-BORE UNDERLEVER SLIDE-AND-TILT SELF-COCKING HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1085,
27 1/4in. nitro reproved fine etched damascus barrels (in 2010, slightly shortened), rib carved in relief and gold-inlaid 'A. HAETGE. IN BERLIN.' in a stippled cartouche, the breech ends deeply carved with oak leaves and acorns and with two gold bands, 2 1/2in. chambers, open chokes, forward-facing underlever slide-and-tilt action (of Collath type) fully self-cocking hammers, deeply carved percussion fences with oak-leaf engraved flutes, recessed bosses, rebounding back-action locks, elongated top-strap, carved horn triggerguard with integral pistolgrip (chip to pistolgrip), the whole carved in relief with woodland scenes of capercaillie, fox and partridge, pointer and hare and a nye of pheasants, surrounded and invaded by scrolling oak leaf and acorn motifs, all on a matt background, 13 7/8in. very highly-figured stock with sculpted cheekpiece, engraved sling stud and engraved steel heel and toe plates, weight 6lb. 8oz.
