30in. nitro reproved damascus barrels (in 2010), sunken ribs faintly engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. choke in all, Jones patent rotary underlevers, carved percussion fences, rebounding floating back-action locks with dolphin hammers, best fine border and scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of original finish, 14 1/4in. stocks including steel buttplates, No.1 possible replacement, weight 6lb. 14oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case (exterior leather extensively damaged, interior mostly missing, lid baize separated but retaining Purdey label), the case lid marked 'CAPTn. EATON. GRENADIER GUARDS.
The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed in 1871 for Capt. H.S Eaton with 30in. barrels
