second issue, circa 1864, with 3 1/8in. octagonal barrel with sighting rib, the top inscribed 'SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS.', nickel silver half-moon foresight, plated frame, unfluted blued cylinder stamped 'PATENTED APRIL 3. 1885. JULY 5 1859. & DEC 18. 1860', rosewood grips, the whole retaining much original finish (serial number deliberately removed from bottom strap but present inside grip) TOGETHER WITH a period leather bound compartmented case lined in blue baize, and including a cleaning rod (leather with scuffing and discolouration)
