probably German or Swiss circa 1560, the massive 46in. double-edged blade of flattened diamond section terminating in a shallow spear point (some edge nicks), border line engraved long ricasso with twin hooked guards near the start of the blade edge, larged double ringed iron guard with drooping quillions finishing in double scroll terminals (possible armourer's stamp), 16in. leather bound hilt with ringed centre section, iron ball pommel (iron parts discoloured, some pitting and loss to point of blade, leather renewed in antiquity)
