circa 1840, with 29in browned barrels marked on the flats 'T.KILBY, LAMINATED', top rib signed 'J.E. EVANS NO 230 SOUTH ST PHILADELPHIA', hardened breech-ends with platinum plugs, top tang engraved with scrolls and an oval with a dog's head, flat border lined locks signed 'J.E. EVANS' and featuring engraving of a dog in a hunting setting together with a panel of scrolls, bevelled hammers engraved with scrolls, figured walnut half-stock chequered at wrist and fore-grip, steel furniture, trigger guard engraved with a further dog and scrolls, fancy finial and substantial pale wood brass mounted ramrod, the whole retaining a good proportion of original finish, TOGETHER WITH a brass cornered and re-inforced oak, compartmented case (lid re-lined) with a selection of accessories including a period leather-bodied shot flask and a powder flask signed 'G & J.W HAWKSLEY'
