A VERY FINE PAIR OF 12-BORE 1879 PATENT 'THE EDINBURGH' BAR-IN-WOOD SKELETAL TRIGGERPLATE ACTION EJECTORS, serial no. 2561 / 2,
28in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and engraved 'JAMES MACNAUGHTON, 26 HANOVER STREET, EDINBURGH AND PERTH' and with grape and vine detailing towards the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, Macnaughton patent actions incorporating later 1894 barrel-cocking design, with standard length toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', top-straps with solid inspection plate covers and 1879 patent manual pivoting safety levers, with engraved 'SAFE' detail, the skeletal action bars and furniture finely engraved with flowing grape and vine motifs on a matted background, the fore-end irons decorated en-suite, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/8in. highly-figured stocks, weight 6lb. 8oz., in their lightweight brass-cornered leather case with some accessories and fine, gold-tooled makers label.
