A FINE AND RARE PAIR OF .650 (REGULATION) SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK OFFICERS PISTOLS
circa 1792, with 10 1/2in re-browned octagonal to round twist steel sighted barrels, flattened sighting rib, gold foresight, notched rearsight, inlaid gold poincon with a crown and 'D. EGG LONDON' at the breech, three further inlaid gold 'fleur-de-lys' marks, gold lined breech plug and touch-hole, rose-scroll and martial trophy engraved top tang, slightly curved border lined locks with stepped tails signed 'D. EGG', sliding safeties, engraved hammers and roller frizzens, gold-washed pans, walnut half-stocks with distinctive 'Durs' style dice chequering to the bag-shaped butts, gold oval to the wrists, short spurred border and center engraved hallmarked silver butt-caps, hallmarked silver pillar and shell trigger guards engraved with martial trophies to the bows, bouquet finials also engraved with a bearded male figure holding a shepherd's crook, silver wedge escutcheons and forend tips and original rammers (where legible the hallmarks read to 1792, one pistol with old inlet repair to forend)
