28in. nitro reproved barrels with tapered raised matt top-rib, sculpted wooden side-fillets, the top barrel engraved 'ARTHUR ILSLEY. 2. ST MARY'S ROW. BIRMINGHAM.4.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 choke in both, William Baker 1912 patent action incorporating patents 4922 of Feb. 27th 1912 (arrangement by which the firing pins pass through the spindle) and 9768 of April 25th 1912 (relating to the extended bars at the breech end of the barrels) and incorporating provisional patent 34926 of 1930, hold-open toplever with crossbolt, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, the makers name gold-inlaid on the lockplates, carved fences relief engraved with portraits of retrievers on a matted background, the action, lockplates and furniture engraved with scrolling acanthus and floral bouquets, surrounding vignettes of English partridge and rabbit in grassland settings on the left; alighting mallard in a wetland setting and a pointer flushing grouse in a moorland setting on the right, the underside with a nye of pheasant and a brace of snipe, the triggerguard with a setter retrieving a rabbit, the fore-end iron with a further mallard and pheasant, brushed and blued finish overall, 14 1/4in. well-figured stock including buttplate, weight 7lb. 60z., in a lightweight leather case
